Ready to start construction ....
There are a few things you need to before you start your home construction.
Building a house is not an easy project, especially in Alaska.  You would want
somebody experienced and with the proper documentation to help you through
the process.  Summers in Alaska are short so you want to make the most of it and
be prepared.  Having your construction project go into the winter will be more
expensive.

Here are a few things that you can work on in order to be prepared.

Find your property where you want to build your home.
Once you have your property you can go to the city hall and apply for your
new home address.
See our local electricity service GVEA.  You'll need electricity during the
construction of your home.
Contact ACS for your phone line.  In some locations of Delta this could be a
long wait.
Choose a contractor that is qualified.  It would be a good idea to compare
and see a contractors' previous work before you make your decision.  Work
out the details of your contract.  One of important question to ask is - Who
will order and make sure the materials are available when needed?  The
construction can slow down tremendously if even small materials are
missing for the project and could increase your cost.
Choose a plan.  Have your builder help you with this decision.  Often times
a floor plan won't have a utility room that is very needed in Alaska and the
size of specific area would have to compromised.
Check with your bank for financing your home construction.  Usually banks
want to see an investment by you up to 25% of the home.  Besides your
financial information and tax returns your bank will need copies of floor
plans and a budget sheet from your contractor.  Keep in mind that the loan
process takes about 6 weeks.

                                          Happy Building.
